2001-2002 Pioneer Basketball Rules

Trading:

There is no trading deadline.  There are no restrictions to trading (other than the veto vote of a majority of the other owners condemning a trade as being unfair.)

Rosters:

All teams rosters must always contain 10 active players and 5 bench players.  That is, total players must be 15.   Odd-man trading (e.g. 2 for 1) is not permitted.

Keepers:

The Pioneer League is a non-keeper league.  A complete new auction will be held each year.

Free Agents:

Any player currently on an NBA team's roster and not on some league team (active or bench) is considered a free agent.  Player valuation reports on the web indicate players who are free agents by not having an owner shown in the "All Teams" reports.  They will also show up in the free agent list when making a bid from the web.

Each owner starts with $100 free agent acquisition budget (FAAB).  Each week one can make bids on free agents as long as they have funds to cover the bid left in their FAAB.  Bidding closes each week at 6:00pm CT on Sunday.  The highest bid for a player gets the player added to their bench.  If there is a tie for the highest bid, the owner lower in the standings (as of previous end of week), wins the bid.  If still tied, lowest at the end of the previous week (and so on), will break the tie.

One can make contingent bids.  These need to be clearly distinguished to avoid ambiguities.  Closed bids are made on players, highest bids obtain the players.  If multiple bids are made, you could acquire several players.  And it's quite possible that you will not acquire any new player.  This could easily lead to getting more new players than desired or needed OR not getting a needed new player.  But, this is the nature of closed free agent bidding.  Bidder beware.

The actual transaction fee for any acquisition is $5.  Results of each week's free agent bidding will be recorded and posted on the web each Sunday evening.

Bids can be made by:

  1. Making the bid from the Make a Free Agent Bid link on the Pioneer Baskeball home page.
  2. Sending an e-mail message to baskets@budmans.com.
  3. Leaving voice mail message on my work phone (515-270-3216).

Any player acquired in this manner will be placed on your bench.  Of course, he can be activated with Monday's transactions, and for each free agent acquired, a player must be dropped from your roster.

Transaction Fees:

Moving a player from your bench to active status (and benching an active player) costs $2.

Acquiring a player from the free pool (and releasing some player) costs $5.

The fee for making a trade is $4 per player traded.  This total fee is usually split equally between the two owners making the trade, but could be proportioned however they wish.  For example, a 2 for 2 trade would costs $16 in total, and usually be charged as $8 to each owner.

Each week's transactions are to made by 6:00pm CT on Mondays.  Weekly transactions can be made by:

  1. Sending an e-mail to stowe@budmans.com.
  2. Leaving voice mail message on my work phone.

Do NOT send e-mail to baskets@budmans.com for regular transactions since I only will read such e-mail on Sunday evenings.  Or conversely, do NOT make free agent requests with e-mail to stowe@budmans.com.

Stakes are quarters.

Payoffs:

    1st - 34%
    2nd - 24%
    3rd - 18%
    4th - 12%
    5th - 8%
    6th - 4%

Tony Ziccardi is the treasurer.  A standard pre-payment set by the treasurer should be made on auction day.  Winnings and final payment adjustments will be made upon conclusion of the season.
